No Prep – Hair Tie Fine Motor Skill Activity

Hello friends! Let me introduce you to my No-Prep Toilet Paper Roll and Hair Tie Fine Motor Skill Activity!

…..we’re still working on the name…

Everyone knows no-prep activities are the best activities!

If I have a random meeting pop up or just need 10 minutes of quiet, this is one of my go-tos!

The best part about this activity is that you already have everything!!

My daughter LOVES playing with hair ties. Not sure why, she’s just super fascinated with them.

When I threw together this game for her it was probably the easiest and best thing I did all day.

Education Benefits

This activity is really big on fine motor skills! Stretching the hair ties and maneuvering them around the toilet paper roll is really going to work those little fingers. I also noticed this requires quite a bit of concentration.

Building fine motor skills will not only help your child’s handwriting, but it also helps them with other everyday activities! It makes them better at using utensils and toothbrushes. It sets a good foundation of hand-eye coordination for when they are learning to tie their shoes.

When kids can do everyday activities like this it helps give them more confidence and makes them feel more independent!

How It Works

This one is super simple. Get a pile of small hair ties. Not elastics, those are too small, but the small hair bands you would pull a toddler’s or kindergartener’s hair up with.

Set those out on the couch or the table with a toilet paper roll.

Show your kid how to put them on the toilet paper roll.

Once I did this my daughter took over and was set for at least 10 minutes, if not longer! Better yet, she’d circle back to it throughout the day.

Her imagination took over and she started telling me how she was doing the girls’ hair and how beautiful the hair looks with the hair ties.

Supplies

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Hair ties

That’s it!

Super easy to set up and pretty easy to clean up when your kid is done.

What are your thoughts? Are there any fun spins you put in this activity?
