Ball Scoop Water Bin

I love water bins! The most mess you’ll have to worry about cleaning up is a bit of water and they are really good at entering kids for 15 – 20 minutes.

When my daughter found a cheap net at the store I was eager to find a way for her to play with it at home. With it being the middle of winter, there wasn’t much we would be able to do with it outside. This water busy bin not only allows her to play with the new net, but it also puts her rubber duck collection and plastic balls to good use!

Educational Benefits

This bin is very good for building hand-eye coordination! Having your kid use the net rather than their hands to scoop up the ducks and balls is making them figure out how to manipulate something beyond their body. They have to consider the length of the net and how that impacts what they can and can’t scoop up.

If you want to add a bit of science to this activity you can find objects that sink as well! This will encourage a conversation with your child about items that sink vs float and what they have to do to scoop up the items that don’t float.

How it went!

My daughter loved this activity. After she scooped out all of the balls and rubber ducks she then moved to splashing in the water and playing with other toys in the water. If you are not prepared to clean up a wet kid, I would recommend doing this activity another day.

That being said, it was super easy to set up and clean up! If you need a quick idea that you can set up quickly for your kid, this is it! All you need is water and some toys! Maybe a towel or two.

Supplies:

  • Big tub
  • Net
  • Water
  • Toys, we used plastic balls and rubber ducks

I would also recommend having a towel or the lid to the bin nearby for your kid to dump their toys into once they scoop them out of the water. A towel for clean up is also recommended! We are working on teaching my daughter to start cleaning up her own messes and this activity was a great way to encourage her to initiate that with any small spills that happened while she played.

What do you think? Did your kid love this activity as much as mine did? Was there something cool that you added to up the fun?
