Preschooler Easter Egg Relay

It’s that time of year where I have a ridiculous amount of plastic Easter Eggs laying around my home! Read on for an easy and fun Easter Egg Relay activity your preschooler will love!

I am a holiday person. I LOVE the holidays! We decorate, we have themed activities, we take holiday pictures. We do ALL of the things.

Part of being a holiday person means I have an overwhelming amount of plastic Easter Eggs laying around my home for about a month.

During that month we do quite a few Easter Egg scavenger hunts to refresh my toddler on the whole Easter Egg hunt thing.

Another game I like to do with Easter Eggs is an Easter Egg Relay!

This is a great gross motor skill and balance activity! This is also a great way to entertain my toddler while I’m working on dinner.

Supplies

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • 2 bowls or Easter Baskets
  • A spoon

How To Do It

To set up this activity, you will want to put your Easter Baskets on either end of the living room (or hallway).

Fill one of the Easter Baskets with plastic Easter Eggs. From here, show your child how to scoop the Easter Egg and move it from one Easter Basket to the other!

After my daughter moved all of the eggs to the new Easter Basket, I showed her how to go the other way. This helped extend how long she played the game!

Make It Harder!

If your child masters the simple back and forth there are things you can do to up the difficulty level!

  • Add obstacles! Put books or pillows in their way that they have to step over or walk around.
  • Use a smaller spoon! If you started with a big spoon, move to a smaller spoon. At some point my daughter started doing this activity with one of her toy kitchen spoons.
  • Use Egg tongs! Using egg tongs instead of a spoon will not only increase the difficulty level, but it will also turn this into a great fine motor skill activity!

What do you think? Are there cool changes that you made to make this game more fun or difficult for your child?
